Description: The first things that turned me on to folk singing was Odetta. I heard a record of hers in a record store, back when you could listen to records right there in the store. That was in ’58 or something liked that. Right then and there, I went out and traded my electric guitar and amplifier for an acoustical guitar, a flat-top Gibson.” This is how Bob Dylan, in his memorable 1978 Playboy interview justified his switch from Little Ritchard-style rock’n’roll to the folk music that made him the legend of the ‘60s. When Odetta released her “Odetta Sings Dylan” album in early 1965 for RCA, she had already recorded and released seven albums for labels like Tradition, Vanguard and RCA. This album went on to score big time for the label and sales went through the roof.
