This vital reissue of the 1962 Broadway Cast Recording starring Diahann Carroll & Richard Kiley was issued on CD very briefly in 1993, but has found renewed interest after a successful 2003 production at City Center's Encores! On writing about this revival, the head theatre critic for the NY Times said, "The revelation of No Strings is that one of songwriting's greatest collaborators had it in him to fly high on his own." This was the first musical with music and lyrics by Richard Rodgers, the composer of The Sound of Music, The King & I, Carousel, Oklahoma!, etc. In 1962, the show, which contains the popular standard "The Sweetest Things," picked up Tony Awards for Best Score (Richard Rodgers) along with Lead Actress in a Musical (Diahann Carroll).
